... May not be as high as we'd hoped. From AWN: Make of this what you will. Remember, nothing's set in stone yet- the key word here is UNDECIDED. Besides, even if a sequel does fall through- we've still got the TV show to look forward to.

Kinda on the down side, this sounds like a lot from the Kung Fu Panda commentary where the directors said they couldn't decided how to defeat Tai Lung before when they went the Wushi Finger Hold idea and sorta made him just...well vanish. The makers must be on writer's block at this time. Lots of creative ideas and minor set-backs does that a lot for people that work in the hollywood business.

Although the news is somewhat depressing, I can't find it in myself to get too upset. I'd long ago prepared myself for the chance of never seeing an MvA sequel after the somewhat... lackluster (for a Dreamworks film) performance in the box office, and with the knowledge of a series in the works, I feel pretty comfortable knowing that MvA is not leaving for a while now. Even so, this news is actually... sort of good. It's still in the air, so we could still see a sequel. Here's to keeping our fingers crossed.

At least this means they can go all-out on the television series, and they don't have to worry about working around sequel concepts. Seriously guys, don't kill me...but to be honest, I don't really want a sequel to the film. I just think Monsters vs. Aliens' ending set it up to be a television series. And as I said above, they wouldn't have to worry about sequels and choose whatever topics they want to cover. For example, if they wanted to bring Derek back in some kind of "old flame" episode, they wouldn't have to worry about the sequel trying to write in the same thing. Twitter Cordova, speaking of nightmares in the Hollywood animation industry, try reading how John Kricfalusi, the practically legendary animator who created Ren & Stimpy, was treated by higher-ups. Though even though it was at Dreamworks, I'm pretty sure execs from other animation studios would do what they did, as well. I wish they just gave "the idea guys" some idea space. D:

Heh, yeah, I agree with you, Aurum.
I'm thinking that a real movie sequel will go the way of Ghostbusters or Men In Black and cancel out the TV series canon and basically just dust off the entire framework of the old movie and use it again, to the point were the monsters would have to prove their worth all over again and come together as a team ALL OVER AGAIN and save the world all over again.
It's even the same sort of concept as those two examples, too... The first movie is apocalyptic, but the universe itself is set up to sort of blend into an episodic continuation, but the only thing that would have enough punch for another feature-length would be Apocalypse Mark II.
It's a pattern I've seen before, and it worries me.

...wow. I'm no fan of Ren and Stimpy, but that Arena description made my blood run cold.
How do they manage to create anything watchable at all with this...system? I mean, it sounds like the designed it to cater to four year olds with attention span problems.

I usually just read his blog to get a different perspective on animation, even if it is an exaggerated one. ;) But I'm pretty sure we could get the basis of what happened.

Unfortanetly the sequel might not be observed because they said that they had stopped the script and said that no sequel will get made. Probably because it has been announced to the kids too quick sequels usally come out in 3 years so 2012 it might be out.

Katzenberg said Dreamworks wants to eventually finish the Madagascar series by having them make it back to New York.
It's weird how far away from Madagascar they're getting! :)
