I picked Link/Susan, but not for the reason you'd think.
To be quite honest, I think the movie was great without a romantic subplot between the monsters. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy pulling shippy hints out of thin air, but I also understand that a lot of it is just whistling in the dark on our parts, as the filmmakes quite clearly had no intention of any Susan/monster pairings. I DID like that Link was always trying be all macho and impress Susan, and in the event of a sequel, I wouldn't mind seeing more of that.
But in a sequel, I'd like to see more emotion development on Susan's level as she adjusts to longer-term ramifications of remaining a monster, rather than her suddenly being in a relationship. I wouldn't mind expansion on the "crush" hints (from Link OR Dr. C), but I have a hard time seeing either of those ships suddenly becoming canon. (But Link is so much more entertaining as he tries and fails... <3)
Which is to say, I like keeping my shipping and my sequel separate. And, really, in terms of shipping, I would VASTLY prefer a longer wait than just a few weeks or months before Susan hooked up with either Link or Dr. C. Honestly, she's known them for a little over a month at the end of the movie. And you know how it is when there's a tight-knit group of friend and suddenly two of them hook up and it's all awkweird for everybody...
Anywhoo... I'd like to see the EsGarGantua battle as the bonus short as well... Or some of the wacky antics during their imprisionment in The Area. Dr. C building insane inventions, Link being snarky, B.O.B being clueless, Susan making friends, Insecto... being there... (?). That's good stuff!

I prefer the Dr.CxSusan pairing the most, but having any serious pairing in the possible sequel would be a bit iffy to me, y'know? Sure, the couple has potential but what if it somehow distracts the plot? I think it could be done just as long as it's done the right way, but still.

I'm all for shipping and and hint-hunting, but I'd prefer the it if the canon refrain from actually delving into any real shipping- unless it is done with the same tact and taste as the Gloria/Melman ship from Madagascar 2 was treated, which mean it would be done for character development- and only if it made sense.

Yeah, sometimes shipping gets to the point where it ruins a fandom, especially if the creators listen to it. I've paid attention to other fandoms, of current running series, and it gets to the point where really rabid shippers don't even care about logical character developments or even the arcs and storylines... They just want XX to finally hook up with XY, or if they're hooked up, them to just have shippy, gooey scenes. And since that fanbase is the most vocal, that's where all the attention goes, and the middle of the road fans who just enjoy the series have to watch it get ruined.
Of course, that's to an exteme point, which I doubt would happen for this particular franchise, but it's best to just take these sort of sentiments with a grain of salt.

I have to agree with what's been said about not having an official ship in the movie. Although we all would love to see Susan end up with in whatever ship we like the best, I don't really think this is the sort of movie to have anything extremely romantic. I remember seeing Madagascar 2...heck, even the trailer, and Melman's random outburst of liking Gloria caught me off-guard. It was a nice, though slightly unnecessary little subplot to the movie, and because they weren't the major characters it somewhat worked. Not to mention it developed both Melman and Gloria's characters, and the part where he admits to liking her was extremely sweet. But in a movie where all of the monsters are pretty much main characters, well, I don't think it'll work. I'd rather see their characters develop by another means.
There are few movies that focus on friendship, and this movie is definitely one of the few that have themes in friendship. Nowadays it's just cookie cutter romance, and I'd be somewhat disappointed in Susan if she went from Derek to say, Dr. C, Link, or BOB in the next movie. She's proof that you don't need a man to be a strong woman, which is why I respect her and like her more than the 'girl-power' Disney characters like Mulan or Pocahontas. In the end, Mulan ends up with a guy, and well...Pocahontas doesn't end up with Smith, she's still driven by her romance with him throughout the entire movie. At the end of MvA, however, Susan ditches her loser fiance to be with her friends and live life as a strong, independent woman. Girls need a character like that. I wouldn't mind seeing some crushes develop, but once actual romance comes into play the idea of the movie shifts.
I'd rather get a peak into the backstory of each character. Dr. C has a ton of potential, a ton, and Link, well, all we know is that they found him in a block of ice and thawed him out. Who knows, maybe there was a whole race of fish people that died out. And BOB's backstory would at least definitely be humourous. I'd like to see Gallaxhar return, or a new enemy, and definitely a ton of kick butt fight scenes.
I'm not totally against ships, I just don't want the movie to be focused around it. Dreamworks is actually pretty good with developing romance between characters. All I know is, if they confirm a ship, there will be plenty of people upset by it, and I personally don't want to see this movie revolved around romance. Gimme some action and adventure! And monsters and aliens!
...and after that ramble, I would love to see a Katie cameo, and have Link at least interact with her (it would make my fangirlish self be extremely happy~). And if Dreamworks did decide to ship Susan with someone, I'd be content with any of the three.

Everything KKX said... Ditto. (Especially that Link/Katie wish! XD)
I love the friendship so much, and the choice of healthy, caring platonic relationships (Susan and her monsters) over unhealthy, codependant romantic ones. It doesn't even need to be romantic; there is a lot of love between the Monsterous Five, and it really shows.

Well thought out KooKoo. The Melman and Gloria thing in Madagascar was kinda completely outta the blue since they didn't show any feelings before in the first movie, but they pulled it off sweetly in the second movie. But let's just remember one thing and one thing only, if Susan and I'm only saying IF, if she does ever end up being with Dr. Cockroach or with Link, we must learn to accept it even if we are gonna get upset by the fact that she might not end up with that other monster that we hoped for.
I'm not talking about moving on from that old couple if you don't agree with the others about that other shipping. You can still pretend that they're still an item if you like. (But no bashing. I wouldn't allow that because people can be sensitive how they feel around other couples.)
I be more upset if she tries to go back into crawling back to Derek's arms, but I don't see happening anytime now. But if she doesn't hook up with anyone else, then that's good because that would still give people the reason to keep their hopes up and the shippings alive for a really long long time. I think it's gonna take a while before Susan can get back to the dating game if she's busy keeping her time kicking butt with the help from her new monster friends.

THANK YOU Kookoo. You don't mind if I call you that, do you?
Anyway, that is exactly what I think. Susan doesn't need romance. She's the hero of the day, and has a bunch of quirky, yet kickass buddies to troupe around the world fighting space aliens, and evil monsters. There's no sidekicks, no leader, no ranks. They are all equals, which is what people today (especially kids) need to see. A woman being feminine, yet contributing just as much as the men (though she did more by the end, the guys did save her life).

Hear, hear! You've said everything I feel, and in a much more concise manner than I could have pulled off. That's why this movie is gold, and the critics be damned for decrying it's "lack of heart."
Oh. You know, we've really hijacked this thread and completely reversed its intenion. O.o

In my opinion, I don't really think a love interest detracts from feminism. She'd still be the main character with the super strength. ;) And she'll never lose the quote:
Gallaxhar: "And there is nothing you can do about it, Susan." Susan: "I'm not so sure. And the name? Is Ginormica."
I think to get people more interested in going to the sequel, I think they should...
1) Bring a great sequel villain. 2) Hook somebody up. 3) Explain Monger's age, man! I'm dyin'! D:
And since people seem to like Susan and Dr. Cockroach, I think it could be welcome as another one of Dreamworks' weird couples.

BOB x Jello.
It's the only canon pairing at the end of the first film. Let's keep it that way.
