Cuthbert never actually saw the alien. He just saw a huge robot probe.

Cuthbert never actually saw the alien. He just saw a huge robot probe. And huge robot probes are freaking scary. XD Even Katie screamed!

What I meant was before they went (read: Katie carried him ^__^) up the hill to actually see the GIANT FREAKIN' PROBE, when it was just a weird orb that buzzed them and wasn't overtly threatening, Cuthbert was still frightened by it.
Repuled, frightened... I just meant an instinctual negative response.
Anyway, one of the things I love about MvA are all the reverse cliches (Katie and Cuthbert are basically at the top of that list, too), so the more I think about it, there really is something satisfying about a possible relationship between those two. It's like a gender-swapped King-Kong vibe or something.

To be fair, though, who else but the insanely curious/insane/brave WOULDN'T be the least bit frightened? They were supposedly alone, late at night, in lover's lane- suddenly the car hood pulls back on its own and there's a strange light show going on in the sky? I don't know about you, but if I was in that situation, I'd want to get the heck out of there myself.

Yeah. I think the fear response is affected a lot by the situation. I can see a centipede crawling on a dead log and go "oh, a centipede. =o Hallo Mr. Centipede, how are you today?" If I see a centipede in the shower, I will freak out, because I'm naked, vulnerable, and above all really not expecting it. Even somebody you know can provoke a fear response by reaching up right behind you and putting their hand on your shoulder when you think you are alone. Fear is as much a result of the circumstances as the object feared.

Okay, maybe I'm being overly negative. Because I'd be a lot more like Katie in that situation. WTF? Okay, I gotta see what this is! Also, my own freakout reflex has been numbed over the years by overexposure, and I for some reason assume everyone else's should be as well. So I'm being harsh. I conceed to your points.

Okay. =o Thanks you.
Outside of the "repulsed by strangeness" angle, how does the pairing look to you?

How does the pairing look to me?
Well, the logic, insofar as it is explained here, is pretty sound.
It just doesn't grab my interest enough to write it or actively ship it. Part of it is that I really don't like Cuthbert at all.

I see. =o
I assume you dislike Cuthbert because of the oft-mentioned wimp factor?

Well, that and the whole voiced-by-John-Krasinski thing. It's a long story. Let's just leave it at "I love to hate John Krasinski."
