Maybe her father wanted to help with the nightmares, but the company performed increasingly dangerous experiments on her, and he rationalized it by saying it was for her good. She might have lashed out in self defense and that's when she killed someone.
You know what? I figured out a loophole in the whole seeing dead people. Perhaps she's seeing an imprint of what happened there (but she can't tell because of a lack of training), not the actual spirits themselves (which actually could have been nice). But as she was a child and couldn't really tell the difference, she assumed that she was seeing the evil dead, groovy?
But still, I'm keeping the fact she was dead (it's passed on. This parrot is no more. It has ceased to be. It's expired and gone to meet its maker. This is a late parrot. It's a stiff. Bereft of life, it rests in peace. If you hadn't nailed it to the perch, it would be pushing up the daisies. Its metabolic processes are now of interest only to historians! He's off the twig! He's fuckin' snuffed it! He's kicked the bucket, he's shuffled off his mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible! This is an ex-parrot! kind of dead) and then suddenly resurrected herself.

Sounding much more plausible there. I assume the experiments performed on her would be kept secret. No father in their right mind would ever believe that sticking their daughter in a coma and artificially inseminating her to build a psychic army would be for her own good. If they kept it secret, then the father wouldn't be a monster for not stopping them.
The spirits thing is sounding better, but do you still plan for them to appear like flaming ghouls out to eat the living?
Go ahead and use the resurrection deal. Just make sure you come up with a reason (not that you need to tell me or anyone else, just for the final product). Psychic powers or not, when you die, your brain goes with you. Kinda hard to revive yourself with your own powers then.
You've shown that you're willing to let go of aspects that don't make sense. Of course, you don't always have to let go of them. You can try to create the reason for them to be believable. Like in my little prologue. When I originally created the characters, I was in high school. I hadn't really developed my creativity (I had some, but it wasn't mature yet). I pretty much created stock characters left and right. Patty was just your typical tough girl. Something had to change. She needed either a history to explain her attitude, or an entirely new attitude, and a history to explain that one. I still wanted her to be tough, but there has to be a reason why. I've worked it out (don't want to give anything away, sorry), and if I can get the story actually written, it'll be clearer.
Don't be discouraged if you have to change something you really like. It happens quite a lot in creative works, even MVA. Ginormica was originally sarcastic, and sultry until she became the main character. Change can be good if it helps things mesh.

Psychic powers or not, when you die, your brain goes with you. Kinda hard to revive yourself with your own powers then. I point out the ghosts from The Ring, The Grudge, and such for your consideration. The actual reason...it's already in the biography. See if you can find it. (Don't post it if you want confirmation. Send me a PM).

First you say it was an unknown reason, then you say she revived herself. I was just arguing that self resurrection doesn't sound plausible (at least not without a thorough explanation). If it was a result of the whole meltdown mutating her and bringing her back to life, well, that's been used before, so it works. Although... it usually happens in zombie flicks.
And I don't know what you mean by The Ring and The Grudge. I never saw those movies. I'm almost strictly on a zombie diet when I watch horror. No need to explain further. If you have your explanation, then you're set. I'm not trying to get the whole story here.
Like I said, if you can come up with a plausible reason she sees only the negative, she'll be a bit more realistic. I was simply pointing out that it may be easier, more understandable on the reader's part, and provide more opportunities for plot events, if she sees good things too.
Once again, your character, your rules.

When I said for reasons unknown, even she doesn't know how she resurrected herself.
For the readers (you guys), read the entire biography line by line. The primary reason is there, trust me.
Maybe the reason she sees the negative is because of the experiments that happened? Or perhaps because she was seeing the imprints she became convinced that all she could see were the negative, which became a self-fulfilling prophecy?
Hey what would be a good monster name for her? Susan has Ginormica, John has Cyberpunk, so what would be a good one? I was thinking Dead Girl myself.

If that's what you want, go for it.
While appropriate, Dead Girl sounds more like something someone would say when they don't know her name ("Hey! You! Dead girl!"). Kinda condescending as I hear it. Buuuuut... If you translate it into another language: Morta Donna, you get a nice air of mystique. Heck, you could go with Mortabella (dead beauty)since she's supposed to be pretty, and it sound like a mushroom, which is goofy enough to match the movie's tone.
Or Persephone, wife of Hades, god of the underworld in Greek Mythology.
