Not sure if this is the right forum, as this is more a speculative thread than an individual monster concept per say.
When pondering OCs, I often come up against the problem of redundancy. A large, muscular, vaguely humanoid creature like Frankenstein's monster or Tor Johnson might be cool...but Missing Link can already fight well enough in hand to hand combat, and anything to large for him to handle would be something for Insecto or Susan to fight.
Right right. How about some skeleton-monster or vampire that can put itself back together whenever it's hurt? ...just like bob can, only with less efficiency. =/
Okay, how about some massive animalistic creature...like insecto.
How about something which goes into a territory they can't? Like, able to wall-crawl...like cockroach. Or swim...like link. Or fly! Like insecto again. >.<
You see my problem? The tricky part of making a really good monster OC is finding an unoccupied niche, an unfilled role, somebody who is neither overpowered nor redundant.
What would you say is missing from the team? What gaps are waiting to be filled? What would be a useful contribution to the group?

Well, my OC Paulankey, is part fabric...
he can shoot/produce string as projectiles or rope for swinging, and can de-fabricate into a pile of fabric
also, can re-heal wounds....
he fits in his own niche

What role does that address though? =s I'm not sure if I'm communicating the purpose of this thread.
I'm not asking "how does your OC contribute to the group." I'm asking "What gaps or unfilled roles does the group have that cry out for an OC to fill them?"
Once we isolate these principles, they will be of great use to the future of Monster vs. Aliens fanfic engineering. =o
What gap did you create Paulankey to fill? What did you feel was "missing" in the group?

What did you feel was "missing" in the group? well then, he's the 'wise, but not supersmart, stong but not strongest' guy', like the middle grounds of everything and i felt a person for Susan romantically was missing, and so i made him that too and, i felt, just fighting clones and gallaxhar in physical battle was overdone, so i made a battle between gallaxhar and paulankey in paulankey's mind..., read the last few chapters of a new thread of life in the story thread...you'll see what i mean |
