Naveen is the prince actually...the Heroine's name is Tiana. I have to be absolutely honest. I'm REALLY trying to support the success of this film. Why? Because it's the first NON-computer animated film in ...well...A REALLY REALLY long time. Computer animation is great and all, but traditional animation is where it all began. Without it, the step forward in technology would not have existed, and it wouldn't be where it is today. And also...there are some things in traditional animation that you just...simply CAN'T pull off with a computer. I mean sure you can make water, animals lifelike, but it just sort of misses that charm that many animated features have. I mean just looking at the art alone of this movie, makes me think back to the days of The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and even further back, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc...stuff I grew up with and loved, and still do to this day. Art aside, I really do like that Tiana is a total 360 from any of the other Disney Princesses. She's independent, hard-working, and willing to do whatever it takes to get to her goal...that has absolutely *nothing* to do with getting a guy. X3 I also like that she is told that just wishing upon a star isn't enough, that you need to work hard to give that star a little extra push to fulfill your wish...a bit more of a realistical view of the whole wish thing.

I really afriad this movie won't do good....why?Because it's not in 3D.Have you noticed that most animated movies are in 3D?Also theres some controversial problems.....I heard on toonzone the princess's name was changed from Maddy to Tania because Maddy was too close to Mammy. Also The Title was changed from The Frog Princess to The Princess and The Frog because they thought it would offend the French(I don't know how?) Also the Lady who said "THIS GONNA BE GOOOD" was seen as a stereotype....so that may keep people from seeing the movie..... Just what i heard.

Yes, and a fact which is only made true (Disney wise, at least) because Michael Eisner decided to stupidly fire ALL traditional/2D animators and close both animation studios, in Burbank AND Florida. However the time has passed, and he's been canned. With him out of the picture now, they can go back to doing them. My best guess is, without any major competition for 2D features, all other animation studios moved on to 3D. Except for Pixar. They're the ones who've kept it alive, they even have a 2d animation class in their building. I can just guess if this does good, and they continue to make 2D films...all other studios who had previously done 2D (eyes dreamworks hopefully) will go back to it as well. x3

You mean like Belle? And Esmeralda? And Mulan? And Jane? (Heh... sorry. Couldn't resist. ) Hm. I can see your points, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to respectfully disagree on... everything. ;D The moment I saw Naveen in action, with his "unless you beg for more!" quote, I was immediately smitten. Why? Because compared to his other Disney Prince counterparts, he IS bottom of the barrel personality-wise- and that means he has the best character development! That's part of his charm, really. To watch an arrogant, lazy, self-centered pimp humble himself and what it means to truly love another person (gah, that sounds sappy!). It's kind of like the ultimate girly-fantasy, actually- that the influence of one strong woman can so radically change a man for the better. But that's just me. I do think it might be kind of a gender thing, though. I don't know why, but I notice I tend to be more forgiving of jerkish qualities in male characters than I am with females. *Shrug*

I'm sure it leaves potential for extreme character growth. I just feel it has been overdone. That doesn't mean it can't be done well, but I'm not expecting much. We'll find out soon enough.
I guess we agree to disagree then, yes?

Yeah that's another thing...most of Disney's princes are pretty much, well...perfect to the sense of being perfect. (For the record I don't count Phoebus from HBoND, he's a captain of the guard, not a prince! XD) I think the only one I can think of off the top of my head, that comes off as a bit of a bragging jerk is Aladdin, but he's nowhere near as pompous as Naveen is. :3 All that aside...I'm REALLY intrigued by Dr. Facilier, the Villain in the movie. Just his bodily movements in the clips i've seen of him astound me. And HURRAY for Keith David (He voiced Goliath in "Disney's Gargoyles"), who seemingly makes him sound as sinister and charismatic as he should be.

Well, it's finally out, and I just got back from seeing.
Holy cow, was that ever GREAT. It was everything I was expecting and more! Naveen was freakin' ADORABLE throughout the movie, as was Ray, Louis, Charlotte and Tiana!

I saw it just yesterday during the first morning time and instantly fell in love with it! The music, the animation, the characters everything! It may be one of the best disney classics that I've ever seen in years!

A few highlights of the movie *SPOILERS!*:
1. AJFKGJASAF- NAVEEN! He was as cute and sweet as I imagined him to be! EASILY my favorite Disney Prince- BAR NONE. I went into the movie, expecting to wait for the moment when Naveen became worthy of Tiana- instead, I ended up waiting for the moment when Tiana became worthy of Naveen! XD (No offense to her character, or anything, I think she was a perfect match... I just got a fangirl crush on Naveen halfway through the movie)
2. Speaking of Tiana and Naveen... my goodness. If those two were any more sweeter, I'd have diabetes! And I mean that in a good way. THIS is how I like my slap slap kiss romances- understandable animosity in the beginning, before learning to work together and even come to admire each other's quirks and flaws.
3. All the sidekicks were GREAT. Louis was the sweetest thing EVER, and Charlotte was just a DOLL! I'd pay money to see the next Disney Heroine be more like Charlotte, frankly.
4. I was relieved to see that racial issues were underplayed and subtle. I fully understand that racial bigotry is a major, and unfortunate, part of American history, but I was thankful that this issue wasn't shoved in our faces and instead only hinted and implied. In fact, I felt that made the issue far more poignant, because at the time, racism WAS just a fact of life that everyone dealt with. It also made me love Charlotte and Tiana more, because while it was perhaps a tad unrealistic, it was also incredibly ADORABLE. The two girls essentially grew up together as sisters and treated each other as such. Charlotte was spoiled, but she still loved Tiana. XD
5. *SPOILERS!* Special mention must be made for Ray. Oh, Ray, you wonderful, spirited little firefly! I cannot believe how endearing you were through the entirety of the movie. Now I see why you were Anika Noni Rose's favorite character- how can you NOT just love a bug who honestly thinks that a star is a firefly, and his girlfriend? And the end... oh my gosh. I was NOT expecting to cry that hard, especially since I knew the twist beforehand- really wish I had brought some tissue with me.
6. Dr. Facilier was AWESOME. I loved, loved, LOVED his shadow shtick and how it was animated- you can actually watch his villain song a couple times over and see several new things if you watch his shadow carefully. Aside from the fact that the song itself was pure awesome, and pure nightmare fuel. But his death... brr. It was ESPECIALLY disturbing to me, since *and I really hope I'm not breaking any rules here!* as a christian, I've struggled with the fear of hell a lot. In fact, I'm going to say that his death sequence brought him down on my awesome meter just a notch for it being so creepy.
7. The songs were fantastic- if a bit short. I SO need to buy that album!
8. The animation was simply GORGEOUS. I love CGI, but I also loved traditional animation, and this was a movie that NEEDED to be traditional. It helped add to the nostalgia while making the colors, and characters, come to life exactly the way they needed to be!

It was a very interesting movie.
I quite liked the spin on an old story rewritten for a later era (1925 New Orleans I think).
According to a discussion on another forum, Dr Facilier was ranked as one of the top Disney villians, at least amongst that fanbase. In case you're curious, the other one was Ursula from the Little Mermaid.
The reasoning behind that was that they were powerfully charismatic characters, capable of conning and beguiling you into making the "bad deal", as it were......
