Thank you, Fuzzy, for putting into words exactly why I love Ginormica so much! You're absolutely right- she ISN'T standard flawless action-girl material. Her awesomeness doesn't come out from anywhere, it grows along with her (pun not intended) in a seamless, natural way. Nothing about her or her character arc is forced- you never get the feeling that when developing her, the filmmakers sat around and said "okay, since she's a girl, and she's the protagonist, we have to make sure she's the most perfect and strongest role model we can possibly make her, just because!" Everything that happens to her happens to her not because she is a female protagonist, but because she is a character who needs to develop just like any other character.

I somehow knew that there was an inner strength within her before she was a giant, only, she needed a little guidence. It was only a matter of time before she learned that sometimes, a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do.

I think it's more than a matter of time. It's life patterns.
Once you've focused on a goal for long enough, that worldview, the story you write for yourself about what your life is and what it's going to be, gains inertia of its own. Without the quantonium, or some other calamatous event, she would have reconciled Derek's issues as "flaws to live with" and tried to make the best of things while telling herself it was good enough. When people really commit to these life scenarios, they can run in that groove forever unless serious introduction of chaos upsets the status quo and forces them to rebuild or reconsider.

MvA represents uniqueness, especially Ginormica. I felt she would represent a role model for girls of the future, plus the other monsters provide other qualities other people would find interesting...if they look closely Susan's strength, courage and determination B.O.B's heart Dr. C's brain Butterlyosaurus' cuddliness and Link's machismo Every monster has their charm and make us laugh Including Gen. Monger and the President It's all there, we just have to see it

Saying it just because there are still people who view it. To me, Monsters VS Aliens is a very great movie. It shows all potentials a person should have, which I will not re-refer to since they've all been presaid. However, I was also the kind of dude who wanted to be the lower one. Like, the average style. It gave me a great reason to think of a very extended fanfiction. It's really inspiring a movie.
