I am a fan of the Despicable Me movie series. But lately, I've noticed all the promotional effort seems to be dedicated to the Minions and as a result, the actual stars of the movie seem very neglected. I have a Gru action figure and a little Agnes figurine, that's it as far as my merchandise collection goes. I wanted the whole family, Gru, Margo, Edith, Agnes and Lucy. Because Gru was all they made, the rest of it is is just Minions. Now look at these movie posters from iTunes when you search for Despicable Me: The first poster, the actual main characters are in the background while some Minion is dominating half the image. The second poster, the main characters aren't even in it. And it's consistent throughout all those items. Let's be clear, the Minions are comedy relief background characters, nothing more. If you were to look at those images, knowing nothing about the movies, you'd think the main characters were the Minions. I really hate them now because of this, you can't promote the background extras as the main attraction! It would be like Galaxhar's robots being the main villains. In point of fact, I am so irked I refused to see the Minions movie. It was a waste of resources that should have been dedicated to a third Despicable Me movie. I'm wishing now they'd made the Minions completely serious and unfunny. Then maybe they wouldn't have become so popular and the promotion would focus on the actual stars of the movies.
