Gah! That's a lot of text to sift through... But I did it!
And I gotta say... Doc/Ginormica still sounds very very very wrong to me. At least as a romance. They can be buddy/buddy, or father/daughtery all day, and I'd be fine. I've said it before, but I think Ginormica entering any sort of relationship so quickly (yeah, the whole one month aquaintance bit) just makes her growth on an emotional level null and void. She learned to take pride in herself, and how to exist WITHOUT a significant other. Please, for the love of pancakes, let her live with that for just a little while! I'm begging you!
As much as I like Link as a character, I still don't think he should hook up with Ginormica. She became someone he can respect, that's all it is.
Okay, that's outta the way. I actually don't mind shipping. I just don't buy into it. Especially for this movie. The characters are meant to be a team, yet each member still stands on their own, not hanging onto someone else's arm.
That's not to say having a significant other is a weakness, just that it isn't the be-all-end-all of life. I have no girlfriend, and I'm fine with that. Perhaps that's why I like Ginormica so much. She learns the same lesson.

Stinking Cockroach and his stinking ability to steal the stinking discussion. Alright, back on topic... ah, geez! So... who would be the first to admit their love, or at the very least, who would fall for each other first? Most of the fandom says Cockroach is already crushing on Susan, and he may very well be, but as I mentioned before, I wonder if he'd be willing to admit it, due to the age difference between them. At their age, it doesn't really matter, but Cockroach still might feel uncomfortable dating, or crushing on a woman who could be his daughter, or even his granddaughter. Given how easy-going Susan is, I'd doubt the age difference would be a problem for her, but would she be the one to jump-start the relationship? Daughter or Granddaughter? EW! I know I've said before to Mansion that age is just a number, but when you look at it that way, you need to see how fitting the age would be. Take like the celebrity stars Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. 16 age difference and they're still together after 4 years. Might I also remind you about Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones? 9 years they have been married and there's a big 25 year age difference. If you want something bigger than that, try looking up Anna Nicole Smith's information. She used to be married J. Howard Marshall for one year before he died and he's well old enough to be Anna Nicole's granddaughter or great-granddaugher however way you wanna see it like that. But back to topic! Yes while I do think Dr. Cockroach would have some trouble admitting his feelings to Susan, I think it's important to know; how does SHE feel about the monsters around her? She's the new addiction to the team, okay we get that, but she just got outta a relationship she wanted to spend her life with that son of a jerk Derek. She could say no to them if Cockroach or possibly Link have admitted their feelings too soon for Susan, but ya think after maybe a while, she might feel the same way about them later on in the future. Could be in a few years, I'm not talking about when they'll be aging. Course with Dr. C, you can't count of aging old with that guy!

Nobody here is saying that Cockroach or Link *have* to hook up with Susan, or even *should*. Heck, most of us here agree that it'd be best if they didn't hook any of the monsters up in canon for the very reasons you've stated, and I've mentioned myself how I think having Cockroach and Susan hook up shortly after the movie would be unrealistic and cheap. What this thread really is for us crazy, mentally unstable shippers discussing what-ifs (to a slightly ridiculous degree, admittedly) and possibilities.
That said, I totally respect your opinion, and I agree, the best part of the movie was the strong, platonic relationship that the monsters all share, not the romance.

Oh, I know. I'm just throwing my two cents in. When there's a mountain of pennies, it's not really adding much value, but it's still fun.
I just don't understand the whole shipping thing. Why do some people feel that two characters should fall in love, and hijack the original plot of the story (possibly negating character growth like it would in this case)? But, like I said, if that's what makes you happy (the impersonal 'you', not anyone specific), go for it. It doesn't hurt anyone.

The thing about this pairing that irritates me the most is the tendency of many fans to casually, even without explanation, return Susan to normal human size.
This is a travesty. Susan is an amazing person, but those extra 44ft and 9 inches make her AMAZING! It's cool, awesome, and just plain FUN to be super-sized! To remove that element of her for the sake of "romance," well, first of all, she wouldn't want it (she's come to accept, enjoy, and actively reclaim her size), and second of all, it would be like declawing her, an attempt to put her in her place so she can be all fainting violet and gremplork. xP
Do not want.
