Hybrid
Chapter One: The Beast
General W. R. Monger paced back-and-forth a small portion of the entire length of the main chamber in a dramatic fashion. All five monsters were assembled and quietly waiting for him to speak. He finally ceased his pacing and glanced at each of them before speaking, “I’m sure you’re all wondering why I’ve called your attention.”
Susan was the first to respond, her curious expression matching the others’ (with the exception of Insectosaurus. He always seemed to wear the same expressions), “What is it, General?”
The general was silent for a moment. The majority of the audience before him knew he was about to relay something of great importance, “Well,” he began, “There is a monster I haven’t told you all about.”
The group was stunned.
“What kind of monster?” asked the Missing Link.
“We believe she’s a human, wolf, lynx hybrid,” he replied as he held out a small remote that seemingly came out of nowhere. He pressed a button and a large section of the steel wall rotated, revealing a colossal television screen, “We found her three years ago in the deep forests of Yellowstone National Park, but we haven’t been able to capture her.”
“I thought you said you had all the best equipment?” Susan asked with slight confusion.
“We do,” the general sighed while attempting to mask his embarrassment. He pressed another button and a slide show started to run, “We have made hundreds of attempts to capture the creature.” The slides rolled on, showing photographs of the results of failed captures, “She was able to outwit us every single time”
A photograph of one of their helicopters was shown entangled in cables (the same type of cables that were used to restrain Susan during her capture) with the ends tightly secured around various pine fur trees. A close-up of the same chopper was viewed next. The windshield had a smiley face with its tongue sticking out etched into it.
Each monster had their own response to the humorous picture. Susan giggled while the Missing Link chuckled. Insectosaurus stared blankly at the screen and let out a loud screech which would’ve been translated into a smart remark.
“Very creative,” smirked the mad scientist known as Dr. Cockroach.
B.O.B. laughed and pointed at the screen, “It’s a smiley face!”
More photos flashed onto the screen. Groups of Monger’s men were hung up in trees by their undergarments, several more were strung together by cables with their pants down, and one was even hog-tied with his belt. Link and B.O.B. burst with laughter as the general seemed to become more annoyed with each passing image. Funny as the sight was, Dr. Cockroach and Susan kept their cool. The scientist covered his smile politely with a hand and the giantess, fighting not to laugh, only let out a little snort.
“Here is a picture of the actual monster,” the irritated general relayed as one final photo appeared.
The image showed a burred version of a furry humanoid with wolf ears and a bushy tail. The fur on her cheeks was especially long, showing some of the lynx in her. She had a head of golden blonde hair that went to her shoulders. The colors of her coat didn’t show up very well, but her eyes did. They were bright, intelligent green eyes that sparkled wildly, and the corners of her mouth were curved into a victorious smirk. The only clothing she donned were a tattered and faded tank top that use to be white and a pair of denim shorts with the legs practically cut into ribbons.
“Aww! Look at the cute puppykitty!” the gelatinous blob cooed while the remaining monsters dropped their jaws in awe.
“She looks fast,” Susan commented.
“Indeed she is. And crafty,” Monger nodded, “I’m sending you all to Yellowstone to capture her. Once my men find her, they’ll drive her toward you.”
“No way she’s gonna get pass us!” Link declared with complete confidence.
“That’s right, Link!” Dr. Cockroach agreed and turned to Monger, “We’ll be sure to catch her this time.”
Susan nodded and saluted, “You can count on it, General.”
“Alright then! Good luck, monsters!”

Insectosaurus soared over the majestic land of Yellowstone with a pair of helicopters trailing behind. He flew over tall trees, rivers, waterfalls, mud holes, and geysers until a vast clearing at the edge of a heavily wooded area came into view. The giant butterfly swooped down toward the meadow, sending a herd of bison scattering into the woods for cover, and landed.
The Missing Link slid down Insectosaurus’ leg and landed smoothly onto his feet. Susan and Dr. Cockroach followed, sliding down the gargantuan bug’s wing and landing quietly on the ground beneath them. B.O.B merely slithered off and fell onto the ground with a splat. He collected himself and joined his friends at the edge of the forest.
“So… we just wait?” the half-ape queried as he watched the helicopters fly off ahead.
“Monger said the creature was last sighted in this general vicinity, so yes,” Dr. Cockroach answered.
After a time period of half an hour passed, the faint purring of helicopter motors rang throughout the air.
“Here they come!” Link said excitedly as the helicopters were closing in fast.
Finally, the creature lurched out of the trees at a high speed. Her eyes widened and she skidded to a halt. The fur on her muzzle and underbelly were a rich cream dotted with several black spots. The colors on the majority of her body were various shades of brown. Black markings that slightly resembled stripes were found on her shoulders, forehead, and on the long fur on her cheeks. Her back and a quarter of her tail were streaked with black, the tip of her tail a sandy color. Her hands, feet, and a portion of her forearms and legs were splashed with greys. She was crouched over, her hands touching the ground and gazing at the group of monsters cautiously.
“Hi, puppykitty!” B.O.B. greeted the creature in a friendly manner while the other monsters readied themselves to advance upon her.
“We’re not here to hurt you,” Susan said soothingly to the creature.
The beast did not believe the giantess’ words. She trusted no one. She made a mad dash to the left. Link launched himself at her, his hand closed tightly onto her ankle and caused her to fall onto her stomach. She rotated her body and pulled hard at an angle, freeing her ankle from the half-ape’s grip. As she scrambled to her feet, B.O.B. had wrapped his blobby arms around her in a hug.
“You’re so adorable!” B.O.B. cooed again, then accidentally engulfed her into his gelatinous body.
“Perfect!” Dr. Cockroach beamed, running over, “Now keep her in there until Monger arrives. He shouldn’t be long.”
The creature thought fast and sank her body to the bottom of B.O.B.. She forcefully pushed off with all the power in her legs, leaping out of her gooey prison.
“Gotcha!” Susan proclaimed as she swiftly snatched up the creature.
The beast yelped as the giant woman grabbed her. She groaned and struggled to break free, but her efforts failed. She sighed and another plot came to her. The creature glanced up at Susan with a sad expression and puffed eyes.
“No! No, no, no!” Susan shut her eyes and turned her head away, “I’m not falling for your tricks!”
“What’s she doing, Susan?” Link asked.
Susan opened her eyes and looked down at Link, “Good, keep talking to me. She’s trying to trick me!”
The she-creature began whimpering like a puppy.
“She’s doing the cute face, isn’t she?”
“Yes!”
The beast scowled, then she thought of one last idea. One to use the giantess’ size to her advantage. She let out loud half-gasps, pretending to suffocate. Susan turned her attention to her. She let out a startled gasp, and hesitated, but eventually loosened her hold a tiny measurement. The creature was satisfied with the quick progress and she continued to gasp loudly.
“Are you sure you aren’t having a nervous breakdown?” Susan asked as her face contorted in confusion, “You can relax, we’re not going to hurt you. If you think about it, Monger’s caught us and we haven’t been experimented on or anything. Sure, you’ll be in a cell about a day or two, but he’ll let you out. Maybe even join the monster team-that’s us, by the way.”
The hybrid did not care. She wanted to be free. She wanted to be as far away from humans and humanoid beings as possible. Isolated, where no one could harm her. She resumed her façade.
“My word! That creature has strong reflexes in animal behavior,” Dr. Cockroach said to himself as he observed the scene before him as the beast in Susan’s grasp was attempting to pull off her escape with the puppy face and fake suffocation.
“What do I do? WHAT DO I DO?!” the giantess cried out in panic. She didn’t want to harm the monster, but little did she know that she was falling for her tricks so easily. She looked to Link for advice on what she should do before the creature would somehow figure out her escape.
I hope the general gets here soon. I’m freaking out! the 49 foot woman thought to herself.
“I don’t know!” Link shouted. Susan’s panicking was rubbing off onto him. He watched the gasping wolf, lynx hybrid in her hand as his mind raced for an answer.
The creature put the final phase of her plan into action, rolling her eyes in the back of her head as she closed them. She let her body relax completely and fell limp in the giantess’ hand.
Susan gasped in fright as she witnessed what had happened before her very own giant blue eyes, “OH MY GOSH! I KILLED HER!” she heaved heavily. “Oh my god. I can’t breathe. I CAN’T BREATHE! I NEED A GIANT PAPER BAG!”
“Woah, calm down, Susan,” Link said in attempt to help relax the giant woman.
“Susan, Susan! Calm down, my dear, let us be patient and try to- EEEUGH!!”
Susan had dropped onto one knee, still hypervenalating, and dropped the hybrid onto Dr. Cockroach by accident. He could smell her foul breath
“Ewww, that is disgusting!!”
The creature’s plan had worked. She instantly sprang to her feet and bolted away from the group toward a particularly tall pine fur. She sank her claws into the bark as she climbed it.
“I don’t believe it!” Link exclaimed as the beast got away from them.
“She moves fast!” B.O.B. chuckled, seeing the beast’s swift movements.
The creature pulled herself up onto a high branch and gazed down at the monsters with a victorious smirk.
Dr. Cockroach coughed, now on his knees and still overpowered by the she-creature’s vile breath, “Ugh… I smell fish heads!!” he gagged.
“Could you please come down? We’re not going to hurt you! We mean you no harm!” Susan called out to the creature, making her way toward the tree the monster was perched in and dropping on both knees, now looking straight at her.
The beast ignored Susan and glared at Dr. Cockroach. She lobbed a pinecone at his head, “Excuse me! It’s kind of hard finding toothpaste out in the middle of nowhere!”
Link blinked, baffled by the sudden outburst.
“OW!!” Dr. Cockroach yelled, rubbing the area the pinecone had struck him, “How rude!” He glared up at the she-beast.
“You’re one to talk!” she countered, smoothing out her fur with her hands and then placing them on her hips in a lady-like fashion, “Last I heard, verbalizing such vulgarities about one’s breath is considered rude, especially toward a lady!”
“Hmph! The nerve of that girl!” Dr. Cockroach said before turning to the giantess, “Susan, be a dear and try to get her down from that tree, will you?”
Susan’s eyes widened the instant she was asked to get the monster down, but she didn’t say anything about it. She moved her gaze to the creature in the tree before her, pleading, “Please come down! We’ll do anything for you if you come with us peacefully!”
“Uhh, Susan, my dear, I don’t think-”
“No, no, try to get me down,” the creature’s eyes flickered in a challenging glance and her mouth curved in a playful grin, “Come on. Catch me.”
The giant woman scanned the earth surrounding her, trying to cook up with a plan to get this strange hybrid down. Without moving her head much, she spotted a branch with two prongs sprouting at the end of it. She slowly reached for it and picked it up, “That’s it… just hold still.” She whispered to herself, worried that this cunning beast was prying on what she was up to. She quickly knocked the creature out of the tree. Once she landed on the soft, grassy ground, the giant woman pinned her between the branch’s prongs. The two separate ends were driven into the earth, holding the creature in place, “YES! I got her, you guys! I got her! I did it! I captured the monster myself!”
“Way to go, Susan!” Dr. Cockroach congratulated with a wide smile.
“Awesome!” The Missing Link exclaimed excitedly.
It was the creature’s turn to be baffled. On other occasions, she would’ve been able to free herself from this position, but the giantess holding the branch securely was much too strong. She sighed in defeat, her ears drooping slightly.
