It's my actual story C:
1. School-like dreary
Birds chirped as they flew through the air. The wind was crisp and chilly, as the sun had just risen moments earlier. Students hurriedly rushed into the school, jumping off their buses, and maybe the occasional Minivan. From outside, the first bell of the day seemed dull, yet obnoxious beyond compare. The students in the school thought so too, but did cheer silently when the bell would ring as a teacher would be talking. Some good things did come out of starting so early in the morning, the students would moan and disagree. Most of the students now roamed the large hallways and corridors sleepily, a fair few coming from the cafeteria, holding a muffin or a bagel in their hand. Even though they seemed to not care if they were late, most students checked up on the time while chatting with friends that they hadn’t seen all night.
After about six painfully long minutes, the bell finally rang. Well, painfully long for the teachers, since a lot of them had already set up their lesson plan for the day. The new teachers learned quickly from either studying or observing the returning teachers, or just asking for help. Right now, help wouldn’t be available, since they’d had a chance for the past 3 weeks. It’s needless to say what was running through most of their minds, really. Everyone by now knew that any Level 2 class would be a bitch for those who actually wanted to learn, seeing as the easier the class, the more the immature students slack, and goof off during class.
As the classes were settled down, and students cleared from the hallway, an odd feeling of equilibrium flew through the doors of the school, and made peace. Finally, the school day had officially begun. Yet there was one student not even at the school, who was running her fastest and trying to get into the school on time. Being late the first day wasn’t a good idea, especially if you’d missed the first three weeks.
The figure had a large, bulky dark beige coat on, which couldn’t help billowing in the wind as the female ran. Actually, you couldn’t really tell if the figure was really female, due to the large coat. It could be assumed by the long, red-orange braids bouncing as she ran toward the school. She was wearing a hat also, it covered her ears completely. She was petite in size, not the normal for her age. Well, height and age didn’t really matter anyways. Just numbers. She increased her speed as she saw the high school building come into full view. The increase of speed didn’t help, just made her wear out faster. Well, it worked. As she slowed down, her heart was pounding, having run from her house. She must have missed the bus to be that late, since class was already 10-15 minutes in. It didn’t matter, as the door opened wide, letting the girl enter.
She entered a little slowly, acting a little cautious now. She forgot to plan what to do when she had no idea where the main office was. It wasn’t that bad forgetting where the classroom was on the first day, but not even knowing where the damn office was? Now that was just stupid. Then she realized, after she criticized herself silently, that she had a slip with the directions to everything. The office was right…. There. Right in front of her, with large windows, and a white door. She walked over to the white door, and pushed.
To her surprise, the door was heavy, and she was too weak to push it open. That hit a point of her self-confidence as she tried to push with all her might. Just as it was about to push open for her finally, it seemed to have been wrenched out of her grip, making her stumble. She caught herself in mid-stumble, and balanced herself. Looking up, her dark, brown eyes met a pair of bright blue eyes. She looked at the owner of said eyes, noticing that the owner was a male, possibly in his late 40’s, with a little scruff of a beard. The girl had just realized she had kind of just paused for a moment. The man in question had started to say an ‘I’m sorry,’ but was startled by the girl’s bowing. If her braids hadn’t been tucked into her hat, they would have fallen off her shoulders, left to dangle. “I-I’m sorry, sir. I wasn’t watching where I was going.” She stuttered dumbly. The man still stood in place, kind of confused as to what had just happened. Never had a student actually bowed to him, or shown him such respect as the female who had just passed him did. He continued on his way after a second, shaking his head and shrugging.
The girl walked over to the front desk of the main office, and smiled, waiting. The person who was at the desk seemed short, with long brown straight hair. “Ah, hello there. My name is Mrs. Kalet, and I work here most of the day. How may I help you, a late pass I assume?” The woman gave the girl a raised eyebrow. “Umm… Hello. I’m the new transfer student…” She said, scratching her neck shyly. Mrs. Kalet looked up at the girl and nodded. “It’s Zhingsunae Katercou, right?” The woman attempted to pronounce the name. “Very exotic, if you ask me.” She then commented. The girl fiddled with her fingers now. “My parents have set up a new name for me. They did it before they left.” She spoke, a little soft yet powerful. Mrs. Kalet looked up and nodded again. “What is it, so I can write it down?” She asked. The girl hesitated. “My new name is Samin Chronicae.” She said, with the dignity of getting a new name. She never was fond of her old name. No one could ever pronounce it right.
“Ok, now you’re going to have to spell that for me, ok dear?” She asked sweetly. Samin nodded happily. “S-a-m-i-n. C-h-r-o-n-i-c-a-e.” Mrs. Kalet wrote the name down quickly, and gave Samin her schedule for the semester, and a map to find the classroom. Mrs. Kalet informed her that the first block teacher had already been notified. Samin nodded, and headed on her way.
Samin skipped part of the way, taking directions from the map, and looking up to the room numbers. She soon got to a large area. It was the science area. How would she be able to find which one was which now? The Science room had one door to it, and she had no idea which room it was in. She ended up just winging it, and getting called over by who she assumed was a teacher. “Are you Samin?” He asked. Of course, do you see any other people with the name Samin? Nope. She nodded, thinking oddly.
“You’re not off to a good start if you’re late the first day, Mr. Chronicae.” The teacher said, mistaking her for a male, due to the fact that she had a hat on, and her braids had been stuffed into the hat. Her face grew red, which the teacher noticed. “What is it?” He asked. Samin attempted to say something three times. “I-I-I’m a girl!” She said, exasperated. Out of breath still from her mad dash to the school. The teacher apologized. None of his students seemed to notice the new girl sit down in an empty desk, they were busy talking to each other and goofing off. The one thing that made her noticeable was when the teacher walked up to her and asked her to take her hat off. She refused bluntly. “You have to take it off, it’s school policy.” He said, in a harsh whisper, but still she refused. That made the teacher even more annoyed than he already had been. Science class was frustrating this morning, and Samin was making it worse. Much worse. He then asked her to come speak to him in the hallway, which she nodded, and followed. At least something she wouldn’t refuse.
When they were out in the hallway, he turned to face Samin. “Look, I know you may think you’re cool by wearing that hat, but you have to take it off. Would you rather I sent you to the office instead? We are enforcing the dress code this year, and it was strictly stated that no hats were to be worn on school property.” The teacher explained to her in detail. She grumbled. “You don’t get it.” She mumbled under her breath, making her teacher fold his arms. “I know you’re hiding headphones under that thing as well. It’d be better if you handed it over, instead of trying to fight a teacher.” Samin blinked at that. “Headphones?” Two lumps were protruding from the hat, which did indeed look like headphones.
“Look, I don’t have headphones, really.” She felt kind of uneasy about this. The teacher’s patience was gone. “Then prove it, why don’t you?” His tone of voice astonished himself, and Samin backed away a step. She fumbled with the edge of her hat, and lifted. Along with her red-orange braids, a pair of large, mouse ears were visible on top of the students head. The teacher was too annoyed to believe anything that she had just said, and walked closer, startling the child. He touched the ears, trying to see if they were real, and he pulled a little. He didn’t notice that he had gotten a little too close, and was touching her ears without her consent. She attempted to say a sentence, but only managed to stutter stupidly.
With that, the teacher saw the female’s face heat up, not with a blush, but something more. She was overheated, probably caused by her large coat on a warm day. He looked at her with an eyebrow raised. “I suggest you take off your coat before you faint.” He said. She nodded, and did as he said, seeing as she knew herself she was about to faint. Almost as soon as she took her coat off, her body fell to the ground, which the teacher had seen coming. He stuck out his arms, and made sure her head didn’t hit the ground. He called into the Science department room, his tone full of urgency.
“I need help out here, and fast!” He had said, when the teacher aid of the class came hurrying out. Most of the students of the classrooms near the science department crowded their doors to get a glimpse at what had happened. Those who did manage to see, nearly recoiled in shock and maybe fear. That ‘thing’ was different, and it was going to be attending the school until it’s graduation? Needless to say again, what was running through both the teacher’s minds and the students alike.
