Maybe someone will wanna kill me, but Shrek is unloved for me. Third movie be a little fun, but... Well, my favourite - The Road to El Dorado, Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, Shark Tale, Madagascar... OK, maybe Shrek the Third too... Bee Movie, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Monsters vs. Aliens, sure.
I not saw - Joseph: King of Dreams, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Over the Hedge And I think Master Mind, Kung Fu Panda 2, Madagascar 3 - maybe will very good

... Plus I get sick of Pixar-worship. Oh, wow! It wasn't until Up came out that I really remembered how that was like. At IMDb right now, there it NONSTOP WORSHIP. Things like "Pixar's doing Monsters, Inc. 2!" "Well, their sequels are ALWAYS better than Dreamworks'! Toy Story 3, Cars 2, and Monsters, Inc. 2 are automatically going to be great!" and "A girl was able to have her dying wish to see Up and died seven hours later." "Dreamworks wouldn't fulfill a dying girl's wish with one of their movies!" I'm really not kidding. :("That is so amazing! Would DreamWorks do something like that? Maybe. Would a dying person even want to watch one of their films as their last act on Earth? Probably not. (Not to say DreamWorks isn't a good animation company.)" One of these days, I'm going to put up mock reviews of a scenario where Pixar and Dreamworks swapped these year's films with the only difference being in name. "Pixar's Monsters vs. Aliens" and "Dreamworks' Up".

...Well, I actually just saw Up today. It, uh, it was pretty damn good. Not my dying wish or anything, though. O.o That's an... odd antcdote... And it doesn't really prove anything either way... It's just blind Pixar worship, like you said. Plus... It's Disney. they try to be all touchy-feely to hide the fact they're richer than God.
Anyway, in the Up vs. MvA debate... What was the point of Up even being in 3D? There were, like, four moments when they actually went for the thrill of "Holly s***, something is COMING AT ME!!!" Whereas MvA had dozens of moments when they made their technology work for them in subtle (the swirling leaves as the probe landed, Monger acutally seeming to fly around above the audience) and stunning (Gallaxhar spitting space tea was my favorite... It seriously made me flinch) ways.
I found myself walkining out of the theatre from Up thinking of the thing Nobility said about never being disappointed with Pixar, but never feeling like I needed to be involved in the fandoms. It was a really good story, had me "awwing" and grinning like a maniac, but I felt no need to hunt down fics the evening after seeing the movie like I did with MvA.
And thinking about it... Pound for pound, I've enjoyed Dreamworks movies exponentially more than Pixar. You can't deny Pixar's a powerhouse and they realease good work, but no Pixar film has envoked the sheer awe and sense of rightness that the first Shrek did for me... Not even the first Toy Story, which I was unhealthily obsessed with as a kid. Dreamworks is a little more hit-and-miss to me, but when they hit, they REALLY hit.
DOOOOOO IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTT!
That would be so hilarious!!!!

I feel your pain, Aurum, I really do.
It's especially jarring for me, right now, because I honestly wasn't that enchanted with Up. In fact, Up was the first Pixar movie I walked out of thinking "eh, it was okay. Don't wanna go see it in theaters again, though..." But of course, everyone and their sister is fawning over the movie and proclaiming it to be flawless, a masterpiece and timeless... aaagh. (My main complaint is with the antagonist. And the whole Kevin plot was just boring and unconvincing, which dragged the movie down because it was such a huge driving force for the third act)
Oh, and personally? I think Dreamworks is superior to Pixar in terms of sequel movies (in comparing Toy Story 2 to Madagascar 2, the only sequels I've seen from the two companies). Toy Story 2 was just as good and entertaining as the first movie, but Madagascar 2 was an improvement in every single way to the prequel. Better animation, stronger plots, better character development... plus it was a movie that had 5 plots going on at the same time, yet it wasn't disjointed or confusing. It was done seamlessly.

Holy crap, Dreamworks is making a Shrek 5 *rolls over laughing* That's rich.... Sorry lol Don't get me wrong i love Shrek, but they're going to find it hard when they run out of story lines, dialogue etc etc I just hope that they can pull it off, because i saw Shrek the Third, and it just wasn't that great and i expected a lot more of them, but maybe my expectations are just way too high, and probably because every time i saw a Shrek movie, i was always comparing it to the first because the original Shrek movie is a definite classic

MvA was way better than Up, in my opinion.
...What...? o.0
It had a lot more action, more scenes that made me laugh and I was still super excited about it even days after I saw it.
Up left me confused about its plot and I was thinking the whole time, "boy, this is Nanny McPhee meets Around the World in 80 Days."

Yeah, what's Up about? I haven't seen a trailer yet, but i know it hits Aus soon An elderly man attempts to complete his dead wife's childhood wish to explore "the lost land" and a young boy tags along for the ride. Really, it was more of a tear-jerker than a heart-warming film. Part of the reason why I didn't care for it, I guess.

I bet if MvA was made by Pixar...
...Do you get what I'm trying to say already? It'd probably be getting loads of worship like Up xD

You're right about the worship. It doesn't even matter what Pixar does... It's like they crap bricks of solid gold.
I bet if MvA was made by Pixar, I wouldn't like it as much. How would they have handled it? Probably like "The Incredibles meets Monsters Inc." The friendship elements would have been overwrought to death. The characters would have been more sanitized and removed from their parodic origins. The humor wouldn't have been as "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" as it was.
It's just the way Pixar does stuff. Would we have gotten boob jokes in a Pixar flick? NO. Would we have gotten the President Hathaway stuff? NO. I just don't think Disney would've let that kind of stuff fly in one of their blockbusters.
Anyway, I'm going to say it again... Up in 3D is a waste of time. I would have saved my money and watched in in 2D if I would know. I mean, they could have done SO much more... It's a house freaking swinging around in the air, man! If that's how Pixar's going to treat their technology, I'm not impressed. Heck, even among other Pixar flicks, Up wasn't really visually stunning. Even Cars (which I hated) was prettier.

I saw "Up" in 3D, and I liked it, even though it packed more of an emotional punch than I thought it would. It wasn't perfect, and the trailer was a bit misleading, but it was a worthwhile cinematic experience.
Pixar and Dreamworks are different. That is their greatest strength, and their greatest weakness. With Pixar, it means that the movie "Up" contained only a small portion of flying around inside the house. With dreamworks, it means that "Shrek 3" was made and the people responsible are still at large.

Just saw UP for the first time over the weekend. It was a good movie, but I didn't even get the option of 3D (Ice Age took the special theatre). I actually liked it a lot. I had a dog that behaved very much like Dug, so he was my obvious favorite of the main cast. The downside of the movie (in my opinion, of course) is that the most interesting character is killed off in the first 10 minutes. Yes, I thought Carl's wife was the most interesting. What can I say? I like the spunky, yet friendly type characters (like Ginormica at the end of MVA). We need more of those, and less brooders/badasses.
But, as has been mentioned many times in this topic, Up was good, but not fandom-worthy. Good story, interesting characters, but they felt too... what's the word I'm looking for?... stockish? Like... we've seen the grumpy old man who gets pestered/later befriended by the clueless little boy. We've seen the loyal, yet stupid dog (never heard them talk, which was unique and provided a LOT of comedic SQUIRREL!.... value). Heck, we've even seen the obsessed hunter villain (Rescuers Down Under, anyone? that was even another disney film).
Yeah, MVA had stock personalities, but they were done in an original way. The sweet, innocent girl you take home to mother was a 50 foot giant. The ugly amphibious creature who acts on instinct was a total softy. The mad genius was an artist. The role reversal was very well done (monster=good guy, woman=strong, man=bumbling idiot... well, that one's not TOO much of a stretch, but you catch my drift). Nothing was entirely reused. Everything had a light and dark side, if you will. One extreme AND the other in the same package. Not so much with Up. Carl was bitter, as old men are stereotyped. Russel was dumb, as chubby kids are thought to be (before anyone docks me a few points, I'm kinda chubby myself, I know it's not true, but it's how the character type is seen). Dug was a dog. What more needs to be said?
So.... In conclusion... uh... MVA was a lot more subtle, but if you paid attention, I think you'll find a more clever movie, despite the claims of complete unoriginality. Parodies are MEANT to derive from the source material. I don't fault it for that.
This year's 3D animation award goes to Dreamworks for me. But both were excellent movies.

But both were excellent movies. The dogs bugged the heck out of me. I couldn't understand a single word they were saying. And MvA doesn't stand a chance against Up for Best Animated Picture, sadly...*sigh*

^Unfortunately, neither does Ice Age 3. Poorly received critics, but the reviews of the critics I've read lead me to believe that these critics don't seem to realize that just because this movie's Ellie could have children, doesn't mean it's a bad film. It was extremely fun in every sense of the word. It doesn't need to be WALL-E.
Though don't worry about the Academy. Way too elitist, and half the time I wonder what they're thinking with some choices.

Ice Age 3 was hilarious Second best (animated) movie I've seen so far this year... And what?? Just because Ellie has a baby, they bash it?
