XD
It's not that Dr. C isn't a compelling or interesting character, because he is, but he's interesting BECAUSE you don't truly know what he's thinking or how he thinks. 'Cuz he's a mad scientist and all.
With Link, you just get to do so much with the character that you can't not have fun while writing for him.
And now we're off topic again. XD
I have an overwhelming desire to refer to this pairing as Klink.

I agree totally about... everything you said, Nobility. Even the "Klink" bit, because even though name-smushes make my brain want to die, that one's kinda cute.
Well, the simple difference between writing Link and Dr. C is that the Doc's a logical thinker and Link's a doer without a whole heck of a lot of filters. So there's a certain element of wish-fufillment in writing a character who just goes out and DOES stuff you'd never think or dream of doing yourself.
And, to edge back to shippiness, Katie would probably find herself drawn to that quality, as she seems to have a boring, bloodless, cliche existence. And ends up putting in time (through chioce or accident) with completely boring, in-the-box people. She's a pretty wild and crazy girl, so someone wilder and crazier would initially draw her, then she'd end up being the voice of reason after awhile and it's be a totally new dynamic that would challenge her more than anyone in her life has up to that point.
I think too much...

Continue to think too much, you make everything make a lot more sense and awesome that way. Seriously though, Link is like, the PERFECT guy for Katie. He's adventurous, strong (at times), wild, and totally out there. Pretty much her dream guy, I believe. I come from the Digimon fandom, so I'm used to pairing smushes and they don't bother me (although I could see how they could be annoying) but Klink is sort of... I don't know... addicting. Fun to say. And it fits.

Oh, I've had many a smush fandom in my day... And code fandoms and nickname fandoms, too. The Office fandom eventually killed smushing for me. *eye twitches* (Yeeeah... I'm an Office fan. Went to see the movie because of Gallaxhar.)
Glad my overanalysis can be used for good. (Seriously... I'm half considering becoming a supervillain with the name "The Overanalyser!" and destorying all heroes by pointing out plotholes in their origin and superpower stories... MUAHAHAHAHA!)
*clasps hands and sighs dreamily* They are so perfect for each other, I swear... I need to write them more...

Personally, I think name smushing only really works when your fandom has a lot of characters with really long names. But I digress.
For some reason, I had the weirdest idea that if Link ever met Katie while she was out on "date" with Cuthbert, she'd take one look at Link, then at Cuthbert, and say "I'm breaking up with you." then chase after Link.

I might comic that moment, I dunno.
Ha, I know what you mean about the plot-bunnies. They're bursting out EVERYWHERE for just about every type of fandom I'm in.
In random bit of off-topicness, is that quote at the bottom of your sig from League of Super Evil?

If you don't, I'll drabble it...
OOH! I was hoping someone would ask me about that quote!
It's a line from a MvA Alt Universe fic I made up! And probably won't write, but that's beside the point. Care to hear the juicy details? (Totally off topic, though...)

YEZ PLZ. AU fics are for the win. As is that quote.
Oh, and if you gotta drabble idea, go for it. I'm terrified of butchering the awesomeness of MvA style with my horrid drawing skill anyway. ^_^

Okay, TEH AU was the result of the spazastic Dr. C/Susan shipper in me going... Well, what if they somehow met as humans in the 'fifties...? Then it almost immediately became, OMG I'm gonna parody The Blob! So, basically, the cockroach mutation machine shortcircuts and never works, leaving Dr. C... not Dr. C. (I was gonna steal G-Gs's awesome fanwanked name of Dr. Jeffery G. Hedison... But like I said, I'm almost certainly not gonna write this.) Four years pass, somehow he ends up in Modesto through the power of narrative conveience. Susan is engaged to Derek (who is now, convieniently, a feild reporter instead of a weatherman) and thiiiis close to freakish Joan cleaver normality. Then the tomato/ranch fiaco happens and BOB shows up. Only The Area has never actually had a monster to react to and doesn't end up on the scene in time, and BOB moves on to... you guessed it... Modesto. How very convient.
Derek the reporter is on the scene, but gets trapped by a collapsed, half-eaten building. Susan is distraught, and goes to the disater area, even though she has nothing to do but wring her hands and worry. Meanwhile, Dr., um, H has been bitten by the vigilante bug and decides to use his handy-dandy mad science to help contain the menace, and arrives as well and starts setting up his jury-rigged invention. Only there are more unstable buildings in the area that he's not paying enough attention to, and Susan catches this and manages to save him by pulling him out of the way (but his stuff gets crushed). He tells her his plan, exposition, blah, blah, blah... She decides to help him for her Derek. They run around, assemble parts, form a friendship, have a montage... All that good stuff. So they finally get a machine together which contains BOB. And then they find out he's, well, BOB and all sweet and brainless and harmless. Derek is saved, only now he has to hand the spotlight over to his fiancee and some suave jerk he doesn't know, which irks him greatly.
The Area finally shows up to take BOB into custody, which sucks because Susan and Dr. H have gotten fond of him and know that he's pretty harmless if you give him the right directions. But The Area wins and takes him away, and Dr. H immediately decides to bust him out. Derek tells Susan to leave well enough alone, so now she has to chose her new friendships and the ability to effect change and accomplish things or her dull life and fiancee. Tough decision. They fight, she swears up and down she's only going to do this one thing and she'll be back, but ultimately, she leaves. They bust BOB out, somehow manage to convince everybody he's useful and set him up in some kind of waste management program where he can usefully digest garbage. Yay, happy ending there!
So, now Susan has to chose for real... I was thinking about working some kind of Casablanca moment in or something... I dunno. She choses... NIETHER! Breaks up with Derek, decides to remain friends with Dr. H (for the moment) and goes to college. Feminine empowerment!!!
The line is from earlyish in their meeting when he's explaining his intentions with the (now-snattered) machine and laughing in his maniacal way over his own genius and she, in her cute little naive way, asks him if he's a mad scientist. And he, at first, thinks she means mad that his invention was destroyed. Cheap gag, but I liked it a lot.
...Damn, this is one helluva post.

That sounds like an awesome story idea. Even if Link's not present.

Yeah, that's another reason why I probably won't write it... I'm so addicted to Link's dialogue now... And coming up with the plot was the only fun part. Actually writing it would be tedious as hell.
By the way... That quote-unquote drabble is done and I'm guessing it's somewhre around a thousand words or so...? Haven't typed it yet. I ended up having to invent a whole reason for Link to be there... Which I'm satified with. It'll be up on FFN tonight or tomorrow.

My OTP. <3 It has the best Fanfiction on FF.net too~ *blushes* Aww, shucks. For posterity, here's the link. Since I know you guys already read it... ^____^ www.fanfiction.net/s/5015515/1/Trading_UpP. S. -- I feel technically stunted for asking, but how do you make it so you can have the actual link be something that isn't the URL? It's been years since I took an HTML class, and honestly, I never was very good with that sort of thing to begin with.
