Heh, I don't mean to bash Susan/Cockroach or their fans either, because I do think it's a cute couple, especially when written well (Goin' Nowhere by Go-Go Spiders remains at the top of my favorite MvA stories, as do all of your stories, Mansion, and Winnywriter's). I'm just a little burnt out by all of them.
Dag nab it, that sounds like an awesome plot idea! I LOVE stories that deal with the monsters going into space to deal with alien menaces, because it's so... in tune with the movie, I guess. But I hear ya with the whole ideas for a fiction that you'll never ever write- that's ninety eight percent of my stories. I mean, I'm still debating whether or not to write that SAINW-style of fic, which kind of, ironically, has a few similarities to your fic in that Susan looses her quantonium powers and is now questing to get them back.
Really, the quantonium is a fascinating plot-device. It's the strongest substance in the galaxy, so there's just so much you can do with it. Speaking of quantonium-null stories, though, I've actually got an annoying plot-bunny that I probably won't ever write that deals with Susan trying to rid herself of the quantonium, not because she wants to, or she misses being human, but because the quantonium is hurting her body in some serious way and she needs it removed, or she'll die. This'd actually coincide with my super-old plot idea for a sequel series that I posted in the FF.net forums, with the monster hunter.
Lolz! I remember those things. Ah, nostalgia... so much fun, back then, before the explosion of badfic...

First of all, thankies for the props! (And this is going to sound eletist, but G-GS and Winny are kind of the only writers who are consistantly worth reading lately... There are a few random gen-fics that are awesome, but mostly... yeesh.) I'm really ambivalent to S/C at the moment, because I love the ship but the fic kills my brain. The only time I have fun with it these days is when I'm not taking it seriously. (You've seen the FSADCM? thread on FFN; you know what I mean...)
Ugh, as for unwritten epic fics... Yeah, that's all of 'em for me. Once it goes past about four pages, I usually lose momentum.
Well, I think it's already been proven that we keep having the same ideas ^__^ But yeah, I don't remember you actually mentioning that about regaining her powers in the SAINW (I remember "knocked into alt reality, rounds up the monster gang and rebells against Gallaxhar") but yeah, obviously that would factor in. I never made the connection, though. O.o Lame.
Yeah, I wonder why quantonium isn't utilized more? It's usually more of a "hinderance" than a plot point.
And that's an interesting plot-bunny. I keep wondering about the radioactivity of quantonium myself. It could be harmful... But it's supposed to be the magic 'fifties radiation plot device from the days before scientific accuracy was necessary (which is why every comic book movie has to be retconned to death), but then again that's the fun of fic... Killing some little detail to death. ^__^
I vaguely remember that post...*checks briefly in other window, thanks to the joy of bookmarks* Gosh, you're one smart cookie, Nobility. That's such a great setup. *continues looking at thread* Gawd, my old posts there make me want to bash my head against a wall.
Do you also remember how blown away everyone was that the fandom was so non-sucky to start with? And then it dissolved into eighty trillion OCs and the dystopian reign of S/C bad!fic. *sighs* This was, what, a month and a half ago? I shouldn't feel this nostalgic... But I do.
Speaking of nostalgia... I miss MidnightMoon14 and Ginseng Love. Don't you?

Mansion: I dunno. The problem with Quantonium-theft is that we already got a good taste of that in the movie, along with the recovery and the "I'm awesome even when I'm small, but I like to be big" revelation. That more than satisfied my need for normal-sized Susan. There's a lot of fanart or fiction out there that normalifies Susan, and it's a better explanation than most, but Ginormica just isn't Ginormica to me without the quantonium. As competent as she is fighting at normal size, it's an essential part of her character. If you took BOB and made him human, he wouldn't be BOB anymore and would lose a lot of the things that make him appealing. Same with Susan. She's lost her quantonium once. Can't people create decent romantic fanfiction with a full-sized ginormica?

Yeah, that was me just throwing around a plot bunny that I probably (read: definitely) won't write. I also prefer Susan Ginormica-sized, and even though I've planned out a couple fics here and there that would put her at normal-size for a while, I always make it a point to convey that it's no longer her natural form.
Basically, I'm always intrigued by the "grass is greener" aspect of Susan's size and I like to pick it apart a lot. And yeah, I do retread the movie in this particular little postulation, but in the movie, she was small again for, what, an hour? Barely time to delve into the psychological issues of finally being able to reconnect on a face-to-face level with most of the world but feeling the blow of the loss of her powers. That's the kind of thing I would have fun dissecting and dwelling upon.
Occasionally, people do manage decent romantic fic with her at her proper size. It just... well, doesn't happen a lot.

Hm. That IS very much a coincidence interesting. I mean, it's not like they're particularly dynamic shots or anything. They could have just as easily released more screen shots with her interacting with the others. And I could definitely see that shot with Link staring at her upside down be very misleading- he DOES look like he's about to plant a Spiderman-style kiss (like I've lampshaded before self-pimpage!).
Of course, it might not mean anything...
OR DREAMWORKS IS TOTALLY SHIPPIN' LINKXSUSAN ON THE SIDE FOR REALZ.
edit- To add a little more to the discussion, I've just noticed that at the end of the movie, when Susan tells her parents about how she didn't save the world alone, she pats her oversized hand on Link's shoulder, and then he stares up at her all happy-like. It's such a cute friendshippy moment that kinda can translate into shippy-moment that brings a stupid smile to my face every time I watch it. ^_^

I don't really know. It was just a quick "Oh." assumption. I'm not much of a shipper anyway. Haha.
It probably could have been who was picking shots. I mean, who wouldn't use Ginormica's spoon is beyond me, anyway. ;)

True, true. But this is the SHIPPING THREAD! Over-analyzation and recognizing subtext that isn't there is what we're all about!

GO LINK X SUSAN! It is the bomb! This is my favorite couple! I believe Link and Susan should get together, which would be a pretty odd relationship in terms of physical contact. A 49 foot giantess and 7-8 foot tall fish-ape, probably be some issues and the fact Link couldn't pick up Susan and carry her off..UNLESS...he became 50-52 feet tall! *Starts to think of Link X Susan fanfiction*

This couple is cute, but I somehow think there were more bigger hints for the Dr. C/Susan couple than Link/Susan.
I'd really like to know where these hints are, because I'm genuinely baffled by the popularity of the Susan/Dr C pairing. I think it's the first pairing I've ever come across that's made my jaw drop in surprise. XD When I first watched the film with my mates, we thought it was fairly obvious Link had a bit of a thing for Susan and that Dr Cockroach's relationship with Susan was overtly father/daughterly. I think that's why I especially dislike the pairing; Dr C and Susan are so father/daughterly that the idea of them together in a romantic sense makes me uncomfortable. Still, I find myself wondering how on earth it's so much more popular than Link/Susan. I don't mean to offend Dr C/Susan fans of course, to each their own, but quite honestly the majority of fics written for the Dr C x Susan pairing read like stories written by jump-on-the-bandwagon shippers and fangirls of Dr Cockroach. Worse, these fics tend to warp Dr C's character to the point where he's barely recognisable just so that the author can pair him with Susan. If you're going to make any pairing work you have to look for some mutual benefit (i.e. how do they work as a couple? Why are they together?) or common ground that the characters share without leaping headlong out of their canon personalities. If the characters have to be completely OOC for the pairing to work, then what's the point in the pairing? Anyway, I digress. Onto the topic at hand. I love Link/Susan because his relationship with her is the most complex out of all the monsters and develops over the course of the film. Dr C's relationship with Susan is static; he's a bit of a wise mentor and aid, attempting to help her change back to her original size and referring to her as 'my dear'. Likewise, B.O.B and Insecto take to Susan immediately. While Susan grows on Link, he remains the only one who doesn't understand her or sympathise with her situation, displaying jealousy and frustration over her wish to return to 'normal'. When Susan starts to show a bit of backbone after Derek reveals his true selfish nature, Link shows a distinct change of heart towards her. He is the most vocally concerned for her when she is kidnapped and the one who leads the team to rescue her (and for sheer squee value, I love the look of relief on his face when they rescue her: www.fanpop.com/spots/monsters-vs-aliens/images/8460041/title/monsters-vs-aliens-screencap ). But my penultimate LinkxSusan moment has to be the scene where the hover bike goes out of control and Link tells Susan to keep going without them. When the door seals, he orders her to leave and save herself and that she has a chance to go back to her old life. He no longer means this sarcastically, revealing a distinct change in his own personality as well as his attitude towards Susan. Susan's relationship with the other monsters doesn't really change throughout the film, only her relationship with Link does. His snarky attitude towards her develops into protectiveness and respect. Moreover, I think their differences in personality make them far more appealing and compatible than any other Susan or Link pairing. Susan is strong, smart, warm and slightly idealistic. Link is cynical, sarcastic and comically macho, but it is Susan's warm personality that brings out the best in him. Nobility raised a very good point too regarding what Susan actually has in common with Dr C. I would argue that Link is the most down to earth and "human" of the monsters, especially after watching B.O.B's Big Break. He's a lot more sensible and grounded than Doctor C, who's far more eccentric in his schemes to escape and, according to the Art of MvsA, doesn't see anything wrong with having a cockroach body and doesn't understand why anyone else should have a problem with it either. Dr C's first love is science and logic. I imagine Link is therefore easier to have a regular chat with/play around with e.g. his prank on Susan at the beginning of the Halloween Special and her sarky reaction. Ultimately, I love this pairing because their relationship is the only one other than Derek/Susan that evolves and develops into something different by the end of the film. Both Susan and Link effect each other positively and that's canon, whether you want to put a romantic spin on it or not.
